The UCFL team visited Salzgitter for an excursion and stakeholder workshop, bringing together representatives from Bosch, Salzgitter AG, MAN, and the City of Salzgitter’s urban development office. The one-day visit provided an opportunity to explore the city and its urban and industrial context while discussing current challenges and perspectives for the region with local stakeholders.
Our UCFL Days 2025 brought together researchers, PhD students, and our International Advisory Board to exchange ideas, share insights, and discuss the next steps for the Urban Climate Future Lab. The event fostered interdisciplinary collaboration, highlighted innovative research approaches, and set the stage for concrete actions in 2026.
We thank all participants for their contributions and look forward to continuing our work together to advance sustainable urban futures.

Our PhD candidate Dag-Ole Ziebell will present this topic as part of “Die Nacht, die Wissen schafft” at Leibniz University Hannover on 8 November 2025, from 20:00 to 21:00, in Building 4107 (Herrenhausen), Room 009 (Lecture Hall Kirchenkanzlei), Herrenhäuser Straße 2A, 30419 Hannover.
As part of our work in one of the UCFL case study areas, we visited Oldenburg to exchange with colleagues from the City of Oldenburg’s urban development and climate protection office, as well as researchers from Jade University of Applied Sciences and the University of Oldenburg. The visit offered valuable insights into local approaches to urban development, climate protection, and the challenges facing the city.
In October 2026, the UCFL team will travel to Lüneburg, our third case study area, for an excursion and stakeholder exchange. We will explore the city and meet with relevant local stakeholders to learn more about the challenges, opportunities, and perspectives shaping Lüneburg’s urban future.
